Build your community

From start, you should define for each MOOC a business plan (target, product, ROI). Then, you know how much you can invest in reaching the desired target.

If the MOOC is for :

  • internal purpose, the cost of building a community is not so important.
  • external purpose, you will have to build an extended community. This generates important costs and also an important complexity.

How to build and manage an extended community ?

  1. Define the company community business plan for training & learning : For each target
    • build your offer
      • perfect your USP (Unique Selling Proposition) as a valuable service. It is your entry point for your audiance. It includes your profile, your offer, and the existing community,
      • do it fit to your target
      • find what makes you and your business different and special,
    • build the business plan and understand you and the learner value creation.
    • regardless of the size of your core team, it’s important to involve stakeholders from across the company to implement your strategy,
    • establish measures of success and define guidelines and policies.
  2. Define and implement the company community building roadmap : how to build an engaged audience around your offer and around your brand ?
    • Build your target base through
      • your existing assets (existing base, partners, customers both current and potential, peers, the leaders, the innovator, the influencers, universities research center, etc.)
      • a dedicated marketing campaign using search engine optimization, social media strategy (twitter, google+ ; linkedin, Facebook, etc.)
      • new partnerships with targeted organizations
    • Understand and engage your audience, keep them interested, active, let them coming back
      • captivate and delight your members (balance between entertainment and profundity)
      • make them active, extend their activities around you offer and other services
      • learn more about your users , about what they do and  about what they like (analytics)

      •  invest and implement social network tools,
      • depending on the size and needs of your business, responsibilities can be handled by a single person or several people assigned to different parts of the job.
        • Strategic lead: this role
          • guides the overall planning and execution of your Community Roadmap
          • ensure integration with internal stakeholders and with external partners,
          • align communication strategy and content plan with larger company initiatives and announcements
        • Community management team: this role
          • serve as front door with the community member. It is the voice of the company to the community as well as the voice of the community to the brand,
          • ensure integration with the “Pedagogical manager” and with the community,
          • post messages on digital board,
          • monitor conversations, manage discussions, resolve “non pedagogical issues, develop “non pedagocical content” and raise potential issues to senior team leads as they appear.
        • Administrative management team (Sales, Legal, IT,..)
          • For sales: strategize and execute to drive conversions.
          • For IT: look for technology security, reliability and scalability and manage social network tolls,
          • For legal : approve processes established by the strategic lead and be prepared to assist if a situation emerges that requires involvement.
