Australia is the fifth in the world in its usage of massive open online courses, according to US MOOC provider Coursera.
In a homage to the World Cup Coursera has created a Coursera Cup Leaderboard which measures countries’ usage of Coursera on a per capita basis, using data on the number of lecture videos watched and the growth in new learners.
In order, the top 10 countries are Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Ireland, Australia, United States, Canada, Israel, New Zealand and Greece. The UK falls outside of the top 10, coming 12th. China and India, which both have high numbers of MOOC users, are placed well down the list because it is calculated on a per capita basis. China is 55th and India 58th.
